Taking a trip to the East Coast we welcome University of California at Los Angeles Feature Twirler, Benjamin Zietz. Benjamin is a Junior majoring in Psychobiology, and graduating with a Bachelors of Science, he was born and raised in California and has been twirling for 6 years with Liane Aramaki. He is the current USTA Senior Men’s National Solo Champion and part of Team USA 3 times!
The UCLA marching band is under the direction of Ken Fisher. At UCLA a summer band camp is two brutal weeks of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. practice where everyone learns the band fundamentals. It is also the time that the band has the “new member introduction,” where every single new member of the band has to perform a skit with their section to introduce themselves. It is a fun way to break the ice. A typical game day in UCLA starts with the performance for the Chancellor and a parade into the stadium for pregame! A UCLA pregame involves the twirlers and drum majors running onto the field for true UCLA traditions. Then comes the best part of game day, halftime! The UCLA marching band does a different themed show every week, keeping every week exciting. After a fun and exciting game the band plays a post game concert full of pep tunes and one last run through of the halftime show.
The UCLA feature twirlers have absolutely loved their time at UCLA and are blown away performing in the Rose Bowl every weekend. Above all they love twirling together as bestfriends on and off the field. Practices and games are always full of laughter with the three of them together and the trio is so thankful to be able to spread the love for baton twirling in Southern California. We hope you loved this weeks takeover and don’t forget about next weeks takeover.
