Today’s college twirler takeover features Morgan Everhart, a senior from the University of Colorado Boulder. Originally from Fort Collins, CO, Morgan has been twirling since age seven and brings fourteen years of experience to the field with her. She started with competitive twirling across the country, but now, in her fourth year with CU Boulder, Morgan is a fixture in the Golden Buffalo Marching Band’s performances at football games, pep rallies, and other CU sporting events.
Game Day Highlights and Favorite Traditions
For Morgan, game day at CU Boulder is electrifying. Pregame is her favorite part, especially the moment when thousands of fans roar and Ralphie, the university’s live buffalo mascot, takes her thrilling run across the field just before kickoff. "There’s nothing like it," she says. Morgan also loves CU’s game day traditions, including the Pearl Street Stampede the night before games, where the band, CU Dance, and Cheer teams all parade together in Boulder to pump up the crowd.
One of Morgan’s most unforgettable game days was last year’s Rocky Mountain Showdown against CSU. With ESPN's College GameDay covering the event and a performance by Lil Wayne before kickoff, the energy was off the charts. The Buffs’ double-overtime victory made it an experience she’ll never forget.
What It Means to Be a CU Twirler
Morgan describes twirling for CU as a surreal experience filled with pride and community support. She loves the energy of CU’s student section and feels honored to represent her school. "Being a CU Buffalo isn’t just about being on the field,” she says. “It’s about showing school spirit, connecting with people, and representing a community that’s just as passionate as you are."
Pre-Game Prep and Snack Must-Haves
To get ready for game day, Morgan joins the GBMB for rehearsals three times a week (four during game weeks). She also spends extra time practicing solo, choreographing routines to keep her skills fresh for halftime shows. For fuel, Morgan relies on a mix of Gatorade, Scooby Doo fruit snacks, Stinger energy waffles, and a dose of adrenaline to keep her energized through every performance.
Advice for Aspiring College Twirlers
Morgan encourages new college twirlers to have fun and let go of stress. "Twirling in college is so unique—you don’t want to look back with regrets." She suggests focusing on a fun, confident performance rather than worrying about the toughest tricks. “Most fans don’t know the technical difficulty,” she explains, “so go out there, have fun, and make it memorable!”
Final Thoughts
Reflecting on her time at CU, Morgan says twirling at the collegiate level has been the experience of a lifetime. And with Boulder’s amazing community, breathtaking views, and academic excellence, CU Boulder has her heart. Her advice to anyone considering CU: “This is your sign to do it!”
